1992 Europa – Columbus 500th Anniversary

1992 Europa

It was time to celebrate the 500 years of the discovery of the Americas by Columbus and the last year the CEPT logo was in use on Europa stamps. Portugal issued one Europa stamp but also six souvenir sheets depicting former stamps adding a CEPT logo. Gibraltar was the only county to use the four CEPT letters instead of the official logo.

Albania took part for the first time producing an expensive first souvenir-sheet. Croatia, the first ex-Yugoslav republic to issue Europa stamps, issued the same set twice, one without the CEPT logo as they were not a CEPT member at the time, and one set later the same year with the logo.
