PRAGA 78

PRAGA 78

PRAGA 1978 was a major world philatelic exhibition held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, from 8–17 September 1978. It brought together postal administrations, exhibitors, dealers, and collectors from many countries to display competitive collections of postage stamps and postal history, typically mounted in exhibition frames and judged for medals and awards. The event also highlighted Prague’s long-standing role as a host city for international philately, following notable earlier Prague world exhibitions, and helped establish a tradition of staging a major Prague world philatelic exhibition every ten years, a pattern that continued afterward. Czechoslovakia marked the exhibition with a prominent commemorative philatelic program, including stamps featuring Prague bridges and the PRAGA ’78 emblem, and related souvenirs and publications that became lasting mementos for collectors.
