A joint issue from France and Great Britain commemorating the opening of the Channel Tunnel, connecting England and France beneath the English Channel. Construction of the tunnel began in 1988, and it officially opened on May 6, 1994. Stretching about 31 miles (50 kilometers), it is one of the longest underwater tunnels in the world.
Designed by George Hardie (b.1944) and Jean-Paul Cousin (b.1942), printed by Harrison & Sons Ltd. and Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste et des Valeurs Fiduciaires (ITVF), and issued 3 May 1994.
