Portraits of three notable statesmen who helped in the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 after World War I:

  • Milan Rastislav Štefánik (1880–1919) was a Slovak astronomer, French general, diplomat, and co-founder of Czechoslovakia who helped organize the Czechoslovak legions during World War I.
  • Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (1850–1937) was a Czech philosopher, statesman, and the first president of Czechoslovakia, widely regarded as the founder of the democratic Czechoslovak state.
  • Edvard Beneš (1884–1948) was a Czech diplomat and politician who served as the second president of Czechoslovakia and played a central role in its creation and postwar restoration.
