The VIII Olympic Winter Games were held in Squaw Valley, California, USA, from 18 to 28 February 1960, hosting athletes from 30 nations, competing in four sports and 27 events. The Summer Olympics (Games of the XVII Olympiad) were held in Rome, Italy, from 25 August to 11 September 1960.
