1962 Europa

1962 Europa

Monaco had its first issues. Austria, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, and Sweden did not issue this year, but Ireland and Norway did return. The common design is a stylized tree with 19 individual leaves (representing the 19 CEPT members) by Luxembourgian artist Lex Weyer, Sr. (1914–2005). Five countries did not use the common design: Liechtenstein (two hands); Monaco (fields & Mercury flying above Europe); Portugal (honeycomb); San Marino (arrows flying around the word Europa); and Spain (honeycomb and bee). Spain and Portugal used the CEPT logo. Monaco was first country to issued a four stamp set. More of the United Kingdom islands issued unofficial stamps, as well as a second set by Paraguay.
