
Formed on 8 September 1961, in Antananarivo (French: Tananarive) in Madagascar, under the name African and Malagasy Postal and Telecommunications Union (Union Africaine et Malgache des Postes et des Télécommunications, UAMPT), as part of the then African and Malagasy Union.
Airmail stamps issued on 8 September 1963. Design by Pierre Béquet (1932–2012), printed in photogravure by Imprimerie Delrieu in Paris. Design features envelopes, an aircraft, and radio masts. Perforation comb 12½.
