1935 King George VI Silver Jubilee

The Silver Jubilee of George V on 6 May 1935 marked 25 years of HM King George V as the King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India. The Jubilee was marked with large-scale and popular events throughout London and the rest of the United Kingdom in May 1935. It was the first ever Silver Jubilee celebration of any British monarch in history. The King died less than a year later.

Missing from this collection is the Great Britain 2½d Prussian blue variant of which only 200 are known to have been printed, and hence command a high price. The British Forces in Egypt 1 piastre overprint is a replica due to the high cost of the real item. Adding to the set of seven Indian stamps is a ½ anna charity stamp for Their Majesties’ Silver Jubilee Fund, used for the relief of distress and suffering in India.
