1946 Chad to the Rhine

This French colonial omnibus issue honored the march of General Jacques Leclerc’s forces (that would become the French 2nd Armored Div.) from Chad to the liberation of Strasbourg. Born Philippe François Marie de Hauteclocque, the French army officer (1902–1947) adopted the name Leclerc when, after the fall of France, he escaped to England to join the Free French.
