1925 Marquis of Pombal

A Portuguese colonies omnibus set of tax & postal tax dues, issued 8 May 1925, for the erection of a monument to the Marquis of Pombal, who rebuilt Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755. Tax was for the erection of the Pombal monument. Obligatory on all mail on certain days throughout the year. When the compulsory tax was not paid by the use of the Postal Tax stamps, double the amount was collected by means of the Postal Tax Dues, inscribed MULTA.

Highlights include Mozambique stamps overprinted for the Niassa Company or Nyassa Chartered Company, a royal company in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, then known as Portuguese East Africa, that had the concession of the lands that include the present provinces of Cabo Delgado and Niassa between 1891 and 1929.
